Thus, the personnel strength of the military personnel, according to the monthly report from the Federal Ministry of Defence (BMVg) released today, despite a reduction of 300 compared to the previous month, remains roughly 4,000 people above the previous year\u2019s reference date and continues to lie within the legally defined target corridor for personnel growth for the year 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Also in comparison with the end of the recruitment\u2011strongest year 2025, the military personnel body had already grown by more than 2,200 soldiers. Moreover, the interest in one of Germany\u2019s largest employers remains high according to the notice. The Bundeswehr recorded around 85,000 initial consultations as of the reference date. The resulting applications (around 53,100, up 28 percent) and hires (around 17,000, up 13 percent) had clearly surpassed the previous year\u2019s figures.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of August, according to the BMVg, more than 451,400 questionnaires for the recruitment survey were sent. The assessments and allocations of interested individuals could still have been increased. Primarily, those who had indicated an interest in the questionnaire would continue to be contacted. Additionally, in accordance with legal provisions, the muster of conscripts born in 2008 had begun. So far, within the framework of the recruitment, nearly 1,000 musterings of 18-year-old men who had not indicated any interest had been conducted.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Personnel development as of the End of August 2026 in Detail<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With currently around 186,400 soldiers, the Bundeswehr reports, according to its own figures, an increase of more than two percent compared with August 2025 (about 4,000 more people in absolute terms) \u2013 of which about 600 more in the New Armed Service than the comparatively FWDL in the prior year, as well as about 3,400 more in the relationship of a longer-serving soldier on time and a career soldier. Notably, the rise in recruiting skilled personnel in the career tracks of noncommissioned officers with or without the Portepee is encouraging.<\/p>\n<p>With around 53,100 applications, there is an increase of about 28 percent compared to the previous year\u2019s month (08\/2025) and an increase of 5,800 compared to the previous month. With around 17,000 new hires, there is an increase of 13 percent compared to the previous year\u2019s month (08\/2025) and an increase of 1,600 compared to the previous month. Currently, around 11,400 voluntary military service members and short-term time soldiers are serving under the New Armed Service in the Bundeswehr. This is about six percent more than the previous year\u2019s figures for FWDL up to 23 months.<\/p>\n<p>The total strength remained within the legally defined growth corridor and, compared with the typically strong recruitment month of July, fell by about 300, according to the BMVg. It is customary for more than average voluntary service members to leave the Bundeswehr in August to begin their training or studies in the autumn. By the end of the year, they expect further increases in staffing and expect to be well within the growth corridor by year-end.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Wehrerfassung, Assessments und Einplanungen<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As of August 31, 2026, according to the notice, a total of over 451,400 letters inviting to complete the questionnaire for conscription were sent, of which about 231,700 were addressed to male individuals and about 219,700 to women as well as people of other genders. Within the deadline (including the extension), around 96 percent of men and around 3.5 percent of women and people of other genders had responded. Of all interested parties, by the end of August around 3,400 individuals had undergone an assessment.<\/p>\n<p>After a successful assessment, altogether 1,155 applicants for service in the Bundeswehr across all career paths could have been allocated. Of these, roughly 1,000 allocations were for 2026, with the remaining allocations for 2027. These figures relate solely to the feedback from the questionnaire, i.e., if respondents during the conscription indicated their interest in the Bundeswehr. This incremental personnel growth is an \u201cadd-on,\u201d i.e., a supplement to the extensive personnel recruitment measures that contributed to the aforementioned very favorable developments in applications and hires.<\/p>\n<p>Already since July of this year, in accordance with the legal provisions and within available capacities at the Bundeswehr\u2019s career centers, almost 1,000 18-year-old men have been Mustered, who had not expressed interest in serving in the Bundeswehr through the questionnaire. These examinations will continue to be increased in line with the continuously expanding muster capacities.
