This was stated by the Federal Ministry of Defence (BMVg) on Wednesday. Due to the overall positive personnel development, it is expected that the Bundeswehr will be high up in the growth corridor or above it by the end of the year, according to the press release.<\/p>\n<p>As of the reporting date 30 September 2026, the Bundeswehr already counted around 186,200 active female and male servicemembers. Thus the personnel strength of the military personnel was about 4,500 higher than in the same month of the previous year. Moreover, interest in one of Germany&#8217;s largest employers remains high. By the end of September, the Bundeswehr had recorded more than 95,500 initial briefings. The resulting applications (58,700, +29 percent) and hires (18,700, +15 percent) across all military career paths had significantly surpassed the previous year&#8217;s figures.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_42691\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42691\" style=\"width: 696px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>By the end of September, according to the BMVg, around 492,800 letters inviting to complete the questionnaire for recruitment had been sent. The assessments and allocations of interested individuals could have been further increased. Furthermore, starting in October, administrative offense procedures were initiated against delinquent recipients of the questionnaires. This occurs in cases where a response from the men within the reminder letter deadline and the following grace period is missing. The amount of the penalty to be imposed can be up to 250 euros. Even after a fine is imposed, the obligation of conscripts to answer the questionnaire continues.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The current personnel development of the Bundeswehr in detail<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With around 186,200 soldiers currently, there has been a 2.5 percent increase (about 4,500 more people) compared with September 2025, according to the BMVg. Of these, around 700 more people in the New Defense Service than the comparable FWDL in the previous year, as well as around 3,800 more in the ratio of soldier on time and career soldier. The total strength at the end of the third quarter thus remained within the growth corridor and had decreased by about 200 compared with the previous month.<\/p>\n<p>With around 58,700 applications for military career paths there was an increase of about 29 percent, with around 18,700 new hires an increase of 15 percent compared with the previous year&#8217;s month (09\/2025). Currently, around 10,800 voluntary military service personnel and short-term time-serving soldiers are serving under the New Service in the Bundeswehr. This is about seven percent more than in the previous year&#8217;s FWDL up to 23 months.<\/p>\n<p>The great interest in the Bundeswehr is also reflected in the current web series \u201cGeneration Wehrdienst.\u201d Since July 2026 it has excited hundreds of thousands of people on the Bundeswehr Exclusive channel and on numerous social-media channels. Since the start of the first season in the summer, the series on training recruits in homeland security of the armed forces across platforms has already recorded well over 120 million video views and over 60,000 comments. Within the deadline including the grace period, around 96 percent of the men had replied. Of all interested parties, by the end of September around 4,450 individuals had undergone an assessment.<\/p>\n<p>After successful assessment, a total of 1,530 applicants for use in the Bundeswehr across all career paths could have been allocated. Of these, almost 1,150 allocations were for the year 2026, the remaining allocations for 2027. These figures refer exclusively to the responses via the questionnaire, i.e., those who expressed interest in the Bundeswehr when completing the recruitment questionnaire.
