More specifically for HD micro-infrared sensors. Up to now, this was more of a niche market.<\/p>\n<p>These are currently, according to him, becoming the standard. Although maintenance and repair of these cooled sensors is a cost driver. But the basis of how the world situation, the possibilities for armed clashes, etc. have changed, pushes this aspect into the background. Costs are (almost) no longer a decisive factor. Rather, a very current and precise situational picture is demanded. Today the best possible performance is required, not the cheapest price anymore. In addition, demands for significantly higher reconnaissance ranges are coming. For the tactical level, we are talking, according to Kobi Zaushnizer, about ranges of three to five kilometers for Group 2 UAVs. This is the prerequisite for far-reaching and highly precise weapon deployments.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Semi Conductor Devices Solutions<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The solutions from Semi Conductor Devices cover the SWIR, MWIR and LWIR spectra and meet the evolving operational requirements of missiles, loitering munitions, missile seekers, autonomous platforms, and long-range ISR systems, the company says. According to the provider, production capacity is being ramped up massively. Development is also continuing toward higher resolution, solutions with different coolers, interfaces, or a core with modular adaptations.<\/p>\n<p>Kobi Zaushnizer: &#8220;The sensor must be tailored to the system!&#8221; Therefore integration and collaboration with the end user or the OEM play a very large role. There is no single sensor that can cover all needs. And here lies the challenge: simple customization options, despite cost-efficient mass production. All of this has to be brought together.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Semi Conductor Devices: UAVs and Loitering Munitions Drive Demand<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The infrared detectors developed by SCD for the increasingly contested modern battlefield offer, according to the manufacturer, high image quality, fast target acquisition, short response times and efficient integration possibilities. This enables defense system manufacturers to accelerate development while increasing operational capability in air, ground and naval applications. The increased global demand is driven primarily by the growing deployment\/production of UAVs and loitering munitions, which S&#038;T has already reported on.<\/p>\n<p>Among the technologies recently demonstrated by SCD are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sparrow- and Sparrow-HD-HOT-MWIR detectors \u2013 they provide high-resolution imagery for target acquisition at stand-off distances, loitering munitions, remotely operated weapon stations, payloads for aircraft, and perimeter protection systems, and also support scalable mass production.<\/li>\n<li>LWIR detectors of the Robin family \u2013 uncooled 12-\u03bcm detectors for the next generation of loitering munitions and highly agile platforms without mechanical stabilization; they minimize motion-induced blur and ensure stable imagery even during rapid maneuvers.<\/li>\n<li>SWIFT-EI-SWIR module \u2013 developed for demanding operational environments; it supports laser point detection, locating enemy fire, as well as platform stabilization, and simultaneously reduces computational load through event-based imaging.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thus, SCD covers a broad spectrum of applications\u2014from compact autonomous munitions and precision-guided weapons to advanced ISR payloads\u2014and addresses key challenges such as integration complexity, motion-induced blur, SWaP-C optimization (size, weight, power and cost) as well as production scalability.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_50557\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50557\" style=\"width: 1543px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><\/noscript><\/figure>\n<p>Not long ago, SCD secured a contract worth 40 million USD with the U.S. government. From this, and presumably the reference of the U.S. customer, additional orders of almost identical volume were placed in a very short time.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the sensors go into UAVs, but also into surveillance towers for border control. And what border control means today can be well illustrated by the examples in Poland and Lithuania. In addition, according to SCD, the space domain is now increasingly a focus. This has become a completely new field of activity.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the sensors, Generic AI (Generic AI \/ general-purpose AI) plays a very important role. Generic AI refers to versatile, broad-based AI models trained on extensive, cross-domain datasets. They are capable of handling a wide range of tasks\u2014such as composing texts, programming, logical reasoning, or summarizing content\u2014in various industries. In military terms, this means detection, classification, tracking, targeting and possibly engagement, without external input. From this, the AI also creates a current and highly precise situational picture. It is basically the prerequisite for on-board data processing.<\/p>\n<p>The onboard data processing, in turn, reduces the amount of data that must be transmitted between the aircraft and the ground station. This has direct implications for the required radio equipment, but above all for the transmission time. After all, data transmission was previously the bottleneck in the overall system. Now the user receives ready information, reports, or a situational picture. Raw data are no longer necessary. Only the truly relevant data are sent. In addition, the end user can further train the Generic AI themselves; they do not require the manufacturer&#8217;s support.<\/p>\n<p>According to Semi Conductor Devices, the AI is being developed with two AI platform partners.
