Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW) has signed a contract with the German Bundeswehr for the maintenance of NH90 helicopters. The contract runs for seven years, as the company announced on Monday. The first helicopters are expected soon at the EFW site in Dresden. In the past, EFW had already performed NH90 maintenance work, but previously as a subcontractor.
EFW will take over the maintenance of the NH90 transport helicopter in the Army variant TTH (Tactical Transport Helicopter). The scope of services includes, among other things, regular inspections, potential modifications, and possible component repairs. With this contract, EFW strengthens, according to its own statements, its existing competencies in the helicopter sector and underscores the importance of the Dresden location.
Direct Partnership with the Bundeswehr on NH90
For the first time, EFW will operate under this program as a direct contracting partner of the Bundeswehr. This new role, according to the press release, strengthens the company’s position in the market for military rotorcraft and opens up additional prospects for future orders. The German Army operates 82 NH90 TTHs with Transport Helicopter Regiments 10 in Faßberg and 30 in Niederstetten, as well as at the International Helicopter Training Center in Bückeburg.
