Rheinmetall has received an initial call-off from the Federal Office for Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services of the Bundeswehr (BAIUDBw) within the framework of the German Armed Forces Contractor Augmentation Program II – Stationary Accommodation (G-CAP II SU). The company announced this on Tuesday. In Lithuania, the group will now act as general contractor to create a modular camp for up to 2,000 soldiers, which is set to commence operations by mid-August 2027. After commissioning, Rheinmetall will be responsible for facility management, which also includes a laundry, and catering.
The contract value for the construction of the modular property amounts to 250 million euros; the value for the subsequent operation stands at 40 million euros per year. The contract was booked in Q3 2026. With the G-CAP II SU program, the stationary accommodation intended for soldiers on deployments and deployment-like obligations within the framework of international crisis management and national and alliance defense is provided in the field, irrespective of climatic, geographic, and geological conditions in the deployment country.
Rheinmetall takes over the entire value chain for camps
Planned and framework-contract-bound modular infrastructure from fabrication through transport, installation, operation, to dismantling form the core of G-CAP II SU. Since these steps can be procured from a single contractor and are standardized, the overall process is accelerated. In this case, the contract was used to support the Bundeswehr in fulfilling the order in Lithuania.
The G-CAP II SU project initiated by the BAIUDBw is intended to enable stationary accommodation in deployments through commercial service providers. By enabling corresponding infrastructure to be created via the civilian economy, the Bundeswehr’s own resources can be preserved to keep them available for high-threat scenarios. Rheinmetall globally shoulders planning, manufacturing, delivery, and, as required, via sea, land, or air, as well as construction, and optionally multi-year autonomous operation and subsequently the dismantling of camps.
