U-MAV: Unmanned Amphibious Land Vehicle by FNSS

The Turkish defense company FNSS presented the unmanned amphibious landing vehicle U-MAV at Teknofest Mavi Vatan 2026 at the Gölcük naval shipyard. U-MAV is intended, according to the manufacturer, to take on the particularly dangerous first wave in amphibious landings and to cooperate with manned vehicles such as the MAV, also produced by FNSS. The platform, loaded up to eight tons, can be equipped with various mission modules that can be swapped within 40 minutes.

The company offers ten modules for this purpose: fire support, mine clearance, engineering tasks, electronic warfare, reconnaissance, deception, navigation and obstacle marking, logistics, and casualty evacuation. Powered by a 300-horsepower engine, U-MAV is expected to reach speeds of 70 km/h on roads and seven knots (13 km/h) on water. Independent wheel suspension combined with various tire options serve to adapt to different ground conditions. The vehicle is also said to have a low optical, thermal and acoustic signature.

U-MAV can operate autonomously or remotely piloted

U-MAV can operate autonomously, remotely controlled, or in a hybrid mode. For this, it is equipped with a satellite and inertial navigation system, an encrypted network infrastructure, and friend-or-foe identification. The three-kilometer direct-line-of-sight range can be extended by relay-capable drones. If the connection is interrupted, the vehicle first enters a safety mode and then, depending on the configuration, either returns to base along a pre-programmed route or continues the operation autonomously.

AI-assisted cameras serve for orientation, target recognition and fire control by the remote operator or the mission computer. According to FNSS, for the first time in an unmanned vehicle the Armor Integrity system from Nurol Teknoloji is used to monitor structural integrity. According to the manufacturer, U-MAV is fully transportable by road, rail and sea as well as by air with A400M, An-124, C-5, C-17, C-130, CH-47F, Il-76 and Mi-26.
