From September 14 to 25, ABC Defense Regiment 750 “Baden” will conduct the military exercise “Badischer Sturm” according to a press release from the Bundeswehr’s Support Area dated yesterday. The training area extends across Saarbrücken, Idar-Oberstein, Darmstadt, Würzburg, Ulm, Tübingen and Offenburg. The center of the exercise is Bruchsal.
In this open, freely conducted exercise, the capabilities in the area of defense against atomic, biological, and chemical hazards are trained. These capabilities include ABC defense advisory, the reconnaissance of ABC combat and hazardous substances, and decontamination after an ABC incident. In this way, the ABC defense forces protect the troops in stationary and mobile deployments – whether at home or abroad.
ABC defense capability is exercised in a challenging manner
Open, unrestrained exercises are an essential component of training and serve to establish and maintain operational readiness. Open-running here means that the exercise participants do not train on a closed military training area but in public spaces as realistically as possible. The regimental leadership emphasizes: “Badischer Sturm” marks the highlight of our training this year. Our aim is to train the companies as bearers of the ABC defense capability in a realistic and challenging manner.”
Therefore, an increased presence of military vehicles in public road traffic must be expected. The Bundeswehr explicitly notes that the vehicles deployed will travel in marching formations at reduced speed. Road users are asked to give extra attention, keep a safe distance from the convoys, and, for safety reasons, not to drive between the vehicles.
