ELVO Unveils New Approach to Modernizing Ground Vehicles

The Greek defense manufacturer ELVO (Hellenic Vehicle Industries) demonstrates a cost-efficient approach to fleet modernization of land vehicles. According to the company, this consists of a combination of existing vehicles with forward-looking technology and locally developed capabilities. ELVO is part of the Israeli SK Group and, according to its own statements, Greece’s leading manufacturer of specialized military and civilian vehicles. Now the company presents a new approach to modernizing the military fleet.

The first modernized Mercedes G-Class vehicles were presented as part of ongoing efforts to transform the Greek army’s 30-year-old vehicles into modern combat vehicles. The modernization includes a comprehensive redesign of the vehicles to meet today’s deployment requirements. Protection has been enhanced to counter current threats to military vehicles. The modernized vehicles feature a drone-protection net, thermal and visual camouflage, as well as protection on the windshields against stones, Molotov cocktails and other threats, and shatterproof mirrors.

In addition, a new engine and an automatic transmission for more power and easier operation, an electric air conditioning system and a completely redesigned interior with ergonomic, adjustable seats with suspension and armrests. Other improvements include an integrated intercom system, USB ports and phone connectivity, cup holders and compact refrigerators. The vehicles also benefit from significantly improved situational awareness and visibility, including 360-degree camera systems that provide day and night views around the vehicle.
