Patria and KNDS Deutschland Maintenance have signed a framework agreement under the CAVS program for the assembly and integration of the 6×6 armored transport vehicle. This is part of the two procurement contracts between the German armed forces and Patria concluded in December 2025, as the Finnish company announced on Tuesday. Currently, in collaboration with KNDS and other German industrial partners, they are rapidly building up domestic manufacturing capacity.
The serial delivery to the German armed forces will be ramped up at the beginning of 2027, and manufacturing in Germany will be gradually increased as part of technology transfer efforts. Patria had already concluded a first agreement in 2024 with KNDS, Jungenthal Wehrtechnik and Flensburger Fahrzeugbau after Germany joined the CAVS program in the previous year. In 2025, procurement orders for up to 876 6×6 armored transport vehicles were issued.
Germany has a total requirement of 4,000 CAVS 6×6
Of these, the first tranche covered the procurement of ten troop transporters, 170 engineer-group transporters (plus option for 54 more) and 48 armored reconnaissance group transporters (plus option for 14) valued at 959 million euros. The second included the variant with the 120-mm turret mortar NEMO (69 plus 61 options) as well as 52 fire-control vehicles (plus 398 options) and brought the total value to over two billion euros. In total, the German armed forces have a requirement for 4,000 Patria 6×6 as the successor to the Fuchs armored transport vehicle. This would make it by far the largest user within the CAVS program.
CAVS is based on the successful Patria AMV and is a three-axle amphibious armored vehicle with a curb weight of 15.5 tonnes and a permissible gross weight of 24 tonnes. The basic protection corresponds to STANAG 4569 Level 2 and can be upgraded to Level 4 (against armor-piercing ammunition of 14.5 mm caliber). The vehicle accommodates a crew of two to three and eight to ten passengers. It is powered by a Scania AB diesel engine delivering 294 kW (394 hp). The speed on road exceeds 100 km/h and eight km/h in water, with a maximum range of more than 700 kilometers.
