The Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) has fully exercised the framework contract for a total of 250,000 assault rifles of the type G95A1/KA1. The manufacturer Heckler & Koch announced this on Tuesday. This completes the rollout of the Bundeswehr’s new standard-issue assault rifle in full and marks another important step in the modernization of the German armed forces, according to the company. Heckler & Koch had already delivered the first G95A1/KA1 to the Bundeswehr in December 2025.
“The modernization of the Bundeswehr is a national duty. The BAAINBw makes a decisive contribution by implementing complex procurement projects with high professionalism and strategic foresight. The full commissioning of the G95A1/KA1 framework contract is an expression of trustful cooperation and at the same time an important signal for the further strengthening of the readiness of our armed forces,” said Dr.-Ing. Jens Bodo Koch, Chairman of the Executive Board of H&K AG.
Full Implementation of the G95 Framework Contract Signals the Modernization Path
Koch continued: “This decision also confirms our long-term corporate strategy. Industrial capability is not created only upon receipt of an order, but through continuous investments over many years. Those who want to equip armed forces quickly and reliably must create the necessary capacities before they are needed. Our investments over the past years have put us in a position today to implement large procurement programs reliably and with high speed.”
Heckler & Koch has, in recent years, systematically expanded its industrial base, according to its own statements. Following the successful completion of the HK100 investment program, the company continued its growth trajectory with the HK Evolution program. In total, Heckler & Koch is investing more than €230 million in additional production capacity, modern manufacturing technologies, infrastructure, and the further development of its international sites.
In doing so, the company creates the prerequisites to reliably supply national and international armed forces even for large-scale procurement programs over the long term. The full implementation of the G95A1/KA1 framework contract thus stands equally for the consistent modernization course of the Bundeswehr and for the capability of a strong German security and defense industry as a reliable partner of the armed forces.
