The Renk Group has inaugurated three new machining centers at its second-largest facility in Rheine. In doing so, the company is gradually transferring the methods of the new production concept across the entire production network. Production capacities in Germany will be significantly expanded to more than triple the output of gear transmissions at the Augsburg flagship plant to over 2,000 units per year by 2030.
Capacity Expansion in Rheine
Rheine is considered by Renk to be a central building block of the production concept. At the Rheine site, defense production capacity has been growing by more than 30 percent annually since 2025, supported by investments of over 20 million euros through 2030.
In Rheine, components for the HSWL 256 gearbox are now being manufactured, which, among other things, is used in the Puma infantry fighting vehicle. The expansion forms part of the ‘Made for Germany’ initiative, under which Renk will invest up to a total of 325 million euros in capacity expansion, digitization, and innovation at German sites by 2028. The aim is a consistent scaling toward series production by transferring efficiency and process standards from the automotive industry.
Increased Delivery Capacity for the Bundeswehr and NATO
Through the increased delivery capacity, Renk is responding to the modernization programs of the Bundeswehr as well as allied forces and supports the achievement of new NATO capability goals. At the same time, the expansion secures existing jobs and creates new positions. In fiscal year 2025, the MDAX-listed drivetrain specialist achieved revenue of around 1.4 billion euros.
