Czech Paratroopers Receive Vehicles – Flyer 72 HD

The Czech paratroopers received in mid-May in Chrudim their first light tactical vehicles manufactured in the USA, the Flyer 72 HD. This was announced by the manufacturer Flyer Defense LLC via social media. This marks the replacement of the aging Land Rover Defender “Kajman”, which has served the unit since 2009. With the Flyer 72 HD the Czech airborne forces now have a more mobile platform for surprise assaults, leadership tasks and combat operations in difficult terrain. The vehicles were presented at a ceremony in the presence of high-ranking representatives from the Czech Republic and the United States.

The procurement is carried out through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program and using funds from the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program. In total, 46 light tactical vehicles of the Flyer 72 HD (Heavy Duty) type are being delivered to the Czech Republic. This is done as compensation for their equipment aid to Ukraine. The U.S. Embassy in Prague stated that the vehicles were procured under a U.S. military aid program valued at 26 million U.S. dollars and were lent to the Czech Republic as compensation for military equipment that Prague had handed over to Ukraine.

Delivery in Two Main Variants

Robert C. Rice of Flyer Defense explained that the delivery was carried out through the “Foreign Military Sales” program (FMS) — the official channel of the U.S. government for the provisioning of defense materiel to allies and partners. The vehicles are destined for the 43rd Parachute Regiment, the Czech Army’s fast airborne unit stationed in Chrudim. “It is an honor for me to represent together with the STV Group Flyer Defense as the Czech Republic presents its first, via FMS supplied, Flyer 72 HD vehicles,” Rice said at the handover.
