Fürstenfeldbruck to Become a Bundeswehr Site Again

The Federal Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, has decided to establish another training battalion of the Air Force and to station it in Fürstenfeldbruck. With this decision, according to a press release issued this Monday, he aims to take another step in the continuous expansion of the armed forces. Just last week, the Federal Ministry of Defense announced that eight sites nationwide were being considered for reactivation to meet the needs of the New Service.

With the increasing number of recruits and the further rollout of the New Service, the Bundeswehr’s need for training capacity is rising significantly, according to the press release. The aim is to cover this demand in the short term by using the potentials already available. After the decision not to persist in retaining the site, it is now clear: Fürstenfeldbruck will again become a Bundeswehr site.

Fürstenfeldbruck site strengthens training organization

With the stationing of Air Force Training Battalion 2 (LwAusbBtl 2) in Fürstenfeldbruck, the Air Force’s training organization will be strengthened. This would promptly create additional training opportunities in a region near population centers and enable many potential conscripts to have a recruitment location as close to home as possible.

Additionally, the Bundeswehr increases its presence across the country and can simultaneously rely on existing infrastructure as well as training and exercise opportunities. This organizational measure by the Air Force is an important step in the nationwide introduction of the New Service and in the urgent expansion of training capacities. Further adjustments will be announced in due course.
