New Military Service: Induction Center Locations Established

The Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) has determined the locations for the 24 screening centers. The ministry announced this yesterday, Thursday. This marks the start of the gradual expansion of capacities for nationwide screening under the law for the New Military Service from mid-2027. To conduct the screenings at central and easily accessible locations, external facilities would be rented in a total of 14 federal states.

For the site decision, up-to-date data on the statistical distribution of the population were analyzed. The aim was to select regions with high population density and potentially large inflows of applicants. At 16 existing locations of the German Armed Forces, new screening centers will be established outside the local premises of the German Armed Forces in the future.

Screening Centers and Career Centers Cooperate for Military Service

This concerns the cities of Bonn, Dresden, Hamburg, Kassel, Kiel, Koblenz, Leipzig, Magdeburg, Neubrandenburg, Nuremberg, Oldenburg, Potsdam, Saarlouis, Schwerin, Ulm and Wiesbaden. In addition, eight screening centers will be created in Bielefeld, Braunschweig, Dortmund, Jena, Kempten, Offenburg, Regensburg and Würzburg. Thus these cities will become new locations of the German Armed Forces in the future. All screening centers will be assigned to one of the 15 existing Career Centers of the German Armed Forces. The latter will in each case take on coordinating and supervisory tasks.

According to the German Armed Forces, the screening centers will assess basic suitability. In the Career Centers, counseling and support for applicants will take place – in addition to the more comprehensive medical, physical, cognitive, and psychological suitability assessments for a military or civilian career. For the individual centers, around 50 civilian posts will be provided each. The first is expected to commence operations later this year.
