The Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA) has placed orders with FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH for three additional WiSENT 2 ARV (Armoured Recovery Vehicle) recovery vehicles. The company announced this yesterday, Monday. With this follow-on order, Norway is further expanding its already existing fleet of support vehicles.
The contracts for the additional vehicles were signed on 18 September 2026. The order is based on existing contracts that provide for corresponding replenishment options. As a result, the number of WiSENT 2 ARVs procured by Norway increases to a total of twelve vehicles, eight of which have already been delivered to the Norwegian armed forces.
Norway strengthens capabilities to recover combat vehicles
“The renewed order from Norway confirms our customers’ trust in the performance and flexibility of the WiSENT 2. The continuation of the cooperation with the Norwegian procurement authority is an important testament to the long-term quality and operational relevance of our system,” said Jörg Kamper, Managing Director of FFG, on the occasion of the contract signing.
The WiSENT 2 ARV is based on the Leopard 2 main battle tank chassis and was developed to recover and support modern battle tanks and other heavy combat vehicles even under demanding operating conditions. Its key performance features include a powerful recovery and towing system, a crane with a lifting capacity of up to 32 tonnes, and a powerful main winch. The integrated Combat Recovery System enables the crew to carry out recovery operations under armor protection.
The WiSENT 2 is designed as a modular vehicle platform and can, in addition to the recovery function, be used as an engineer, mine-clearing, or bridge-layer vehicle. Through its modular concept, the vehicle can be reconfigured between different configurations in a short time. With the follow-on order, Norway, according to FFG, is relying on the shared basis of its protected support vehicles and at the same time strengthening its capabilities for maintenance, recovery, and support of modern combat vehicles.
