Bundeswehr: Over 2,000 Rheinmetall Transport Vehicles

The Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply more than 2,000 military transport vehicles. These are the so-called “Unprotected Transport Vehicles” (UTF) in the 4×4 (3.5 t), 6×6 (5 t) and 8×8 (15 t) variants. The contract value amounts to €1.015 billion gross. The large-scale order stems from the framework contract signed in 2024 for up to 6,500 vehicles in total and will be booked in the second quarter of 2026.

Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV) will begin delivering the vehicles in the first half of 2026. The vast majority are to be delivered in the current year. The order comprises around 1,000 vehicles of the 8×8 type and a further around 1,000 vehicles of the 4×4 and 6×6 types. The UTF family, with its high quantity and versatility, forms the logistical backbone of the Bundeswehr.

Bundeswehr Benefits from Standardization of the HX Family

The UTF joint project between Rheinmetall and the Federal Office of Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) ensures rapid provisioning of materiel and supplies to the troops. The vehicles are based on the RMMV HX family. This family was specifically developed for military requirements and is characterized by its off-road capability and robustness. As “military-off-the-shelf” vehicles, they combine large-scale production technology with military-specific modifications.

“Through the extensive standardization of the HX vehicle family, the Bundeswehr benefits from significant synergies in training, operation and maintenance. Our unprotected and protected vehicles are deployed worldwide and have proven their reliability under the harshest climatic conditions,” said Christoph Müller, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of RMMV.
